It’s normal to feel somewhat tender if you have undergone a dental procedure, such as thinning your enamel to place veneers, getting a root canal, or placing dental implants. Although over-the-counter medications and ice packs can provide temporary relief from throbbing and inflammation, you might exacerbate your condition if you aren’t careful about what you eat.

Unfortunately, many nutritious foods that contain helpful ingredients to support your recovery are tough to bite into when your teeth hurt. Continue reading to learn more about 4 wholesome options that are softer and easier to eat!

Option #1: Blended Smoothies

Chomping into raw fruits and vegetables might worsen the aches in  your teeth, gums, or jaw, but it’s natural to want to fill your body with healthy options to support your immune system for healing.

Thankfully, these options and other ingredients can be blended into smoothies that can be swallowed without biting or chewing. However, keep in mind that if you’ve had an implant placed or had a troublesome tooth removed, drinking from a straw might dislodge the blood clot that’s essential for healing. Sipping straight from your cup can help prevent this.

Option #2: Eggs

Did you know that eggs are packed with beneficial ingredients, including high-quality proteins, essential vitamins (like A, B12, D, E, and others) crucial minerals, and antioxidants? These components work together to support various bodily functions, such as vision, energy, brain function, muscle repair, bone health, and immunity.

Not only that, but they’re incredibly soft and therefore less likely to cause aches or inflammation, and can be served in a variety of ways, so you don’t get too bored eating them!

Option #3: Yogurt

Snacks that contain protein can support dental recovery by promoting stronger muscles as well as tissue repair, but you might be feeling too sore to nibble your favorite cheese. Fortunately, yogurt contains helpful ingredients to help your mouth mend, such as calcium, which is needed for healthy teeth and bones, protein, and even probiotics to help with digestion.

Option #4: Pudding

If you are craving something sugary for dessert but hard candies and toffee are off limits, don’t lose hope! You can probably still safely enjoy easy-to-eat sweets, like pudding in your favorite flavor. Whether you prefer chocolate, vanilla, or some other option, you’re not likely to injure your swollen gums or trigger sensitivity in your teeth by swallowing some of this soft, delicious treat.

If your dentist provided specific instructions about foods to avoid during your recovery, following their orders is the best way to mend as quickly as possible while avoiding potential complications!
